'Think globally, act locally' is the
philosophy of partnerships such as that between this parish in Busoga
Diocese and Bitterne parish in Southampton, England.
Thanks to Busoga Water engineers and the generosity of donors in
Bitterne, clean water is now far more widely available in Namalemba.
This video clip shows how lives have been changed by the work of the
Busoga Trust. There are now more than 26 clean water sources in
Namalemba, and work is now under way to provide more than 200
roof-water systems in the parish. |

St. John's Church in Haydon's Wick, Swindon
have been supporting various projects in Luwero including Kiwoko
Hospital, the Blind Centre at Balitta and Bwasiba Primary School.
The big primary school at Balitta is too far away from Bwasiba for
young children to walk so the Reverend William Kiwanuka helped the
Bwasiba parents to get a primary school going next to the church in a
broken down mud school room dating from colonial days. There was only
one classroom so most of the classes sat on bricks outside. There was
no furniture except some church benches for the oldest children and no
books. That was 1999. Now, thanks primarily to St. John's the old
classroom is repaired and a new brick classroom has been added.
A big problem was lack of water at the school and the ground was found
to be unsuitable for a well or borehole. But the new classroom has a
corrugated iron roof which meant that a water catchment scheme was a
possibilty. At this point Churchdown Secondary School, near Gloucester
stepped in with money for gutters and a large ferrous cement tank
built by the Water Sector. |

Meanwhile St. John's have continued their
support with a donation towards a second new classroom at Basiba
together with a further gift to Kiwoko Hospital. Their link with
Luwero Diocese is growing. The two vicars, Raymond Adams and William
Kiwanuka correspond and their letters are building up a mutual
friendship and understanding between their two communities.
The money for the new tank has kindly been donated by St. John's
Church in Swindon. |
