Job Opportunity: Community Development Officer (Masindi)
GENERAL CONTEXT
Our project in Masindi was established in early 2008 and has since installed over 80 clean water sources within Masindi and Kiryandongo districts. The project requires the addition of another Community Development Officer to assist with the implementation of field activities.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
The Community Development Officer will work as part of a team responsible for implementing and supervising all community based activities. Other main duties include:
- Conducting community health seminars with particular focus on hygiene and sanitation
- Carrying out household level baseline surveys
- Facilitating Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) interventions
- Training and supporting water user committees to properly maintain water sources
- Organizing and educating school health clubs about improved hygiene and sanitation
- Working to strengthen relationships with all project stakeholders
- Being fully transparent and accountable for any funds given
Key skills and Qualification:
Essential:
- Degree or Diploma in relevant field of study (such as Social Sciences or Development Studies), or equivalent work experience
- At least two years of experience in community development field work
- Proven ability and/or willingness to work in a field based environment
- Fluent in spoken English, Kiswahili, and Luo, Alur, or Lugbara
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to plan ahead and be on time
- Between the ages of 20 and 35 (due to physical demands of field work)
Desirable:
- Experience working for a water and sanitation focused organisation
- Experience in design and evaluation of community based programmes
- Experience in training delivery and community group based capacity building
- Experience in facilitating Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) programmes
- Valid motorcycle riding permit
- Strong self motivation
