About Luwero

Luwero is a district in central Uganda. Like many other Ugandan districts, it is named after its 'chief town'. Luwero was the site of a fierce insurgency and brutal counter-insurgency that left many thousands of civilians dead before the National Resistance Army of Yoweri Museveni came to power in 1986.

The ‘killing fields’ of the Luwero triangle as it became known left a traumatic legacy and a people with tremendous need. The Bishop of Luwero invited the Trust to work in the Diocese to address the most basic of requirements – the provision of clean water.
