In late summer 2013, Team Brockweir set out to cycle from Brockweir, a small village in the Wye Valley, to Paris – a distance of exactly 366 miles.
The team consisted of husband and wife team Louise Russell and Jonathan Cockburn. Louise came to know of the Trust having been taught by former Trustee, the late Frances David. Friends since school with Frances’s daughter Lucy, she accepted an invitation to visit Uganda in Feb 2013 which then inspired her to such feats of endurance.
As Louise said;
I went to Uganda in February to visit the projects that had been funded by money raised over the previous 12 months. I saw how and where the money went and the impact it made on the lives of people who had access to a clean water supply for the first time. People know how fundamental and life changing this can be and they are desperate to be included in the well programme or to have additional wells in their villages.
Both the challenge itself and the fundraising were a huge success and the intrepid cyclists raised over £4000 (including a donation of £1000 from IMG) which will fund a well in Luwero District of Uganda.
Hats off to them!
