The Busoga Trust is a Christian organisation
which exists to provide funding for clean water sources for rural
people within Uganda, mostly in Busoga and Luwero. Here are 10 reasons
why we think you may wish to support our work:
1. After clean air, clean water is the most essential for human life.
2. Five million children die each year for lack of clean water and
sanitation.
3. We have an excellent track record, having completed over 1000 good water
sources. Our work with our local partners is well regarded by both the
Ugandan government and beneficiaries, as well as by the British
government and the E.U.
4. Great success rate with over 90% of all these sources are in good working order at any
time.
5. Helping people to help themselves is our method and all the work is
done by local people under the supervision of a well trained
technician.
6. All wells are owned by the local people who are responsible for
maintaining them with their local trained hand pump mechanic, using
their own funds.
7. Just £3.50 enables one person to have access to the priceless benefits
of clean water. Lives will be saved, health greatly improved and
time
saved for productive purposes.
8. Health education, with special emphasis on sanitation, is a major
part of the scheme.
9. Women play a key role at every stage - in mobilising the community,
in siting the wells, in construction and in the oversight of the
maintenance and management
10. Our policy is to carry out a comprehensive rural water programme
for the benefit of all people without exception, not just to do a few
wells here and there. We see this as the only viable approach.
